We would like to invite you to a Lunch Seminar with Dr Paul Atkinson on Wednesday 5th of October 12.00 – 13.00 at HDK. Paul will talk about Open Design: How the end of exclusivity will affect the future of design.
Paul Atkinson is an industrial designer, design historian and design educator. He trained initially as a mechanical and production engineer before studying Industrial Design at The University of Teesside. He has since worked as an in-house designer, a design manager and as a director of a design consultancy.
Paul will talk about how the future of design is set to change. We are entering a ‘Post Professional’ era, where Open Design is the norm and attitudes to the notion of the professional designer are called into question. Emerging technologies are enabling the widespread adoption of Post Industrial Manufacturing techniques - an alternative to Mass Production, and in many ways a return to more craft-based production methods. Coupled with easy access to global communications connecting unlimited numbers of participants, Open Design is a disruptive technology which looks set to redress the balance between professional and amateur design and production.
